Michelle Leona Cecil: The Mentors Shape What Metrics Can’t Measure in the Bleeding Disorders Community
Michelle Leona Cecil, Community Digital Advocate at MicroHealth, WFH Susan Skinner Memorial Fund Scholarship Advisory and Selection Committee Member, shared on LinkedIn:
”There’s a unique kind of impact that doesn’t always show up in metrics… but shapes everything.
I’m talking about the mentors, the ‘big siblings,’ the people in the bleeding disorders community who guide, support, and walk alongside others… often without recognition.’
The ones who:
- Answer questions when things feel overwhelming
- Help you navigate your first conference or HTC visit
- Show you how to advocate – not just for yourself, but for others
- Remind you that your voice and your experience matter
As someone who grew up in a family deeply impacted by bleeding disorders, and now works in this space every day, I know firsthand how critical those relationships are.
They helped me find my voice, build confidence, and understand how lived experience can drive real change.
In my work with Microhealth (digital hematology), I see this come full circle.
When individuals are supported, informed, and empowered with tools and knowledge, they’re more prepared to step into those guiding roles for others.
That’s how community impact grows… person to person, story to story.
Because real impact isn’t always about scale.
Sometimes, it’s about showing up for one person at the right time… and changing the trajectory of their journey.
I’d love to hear… who in the community or in your career has played that guiding role for you?”
