Alan Dursun: Global Training in Kuala Lumpur Advancing Advocacy and Patient Impact
Alan Dursun, Senior Case Manager at Allianz Australia, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Day 2 in Kuala Lumpur, and Day 1 of the Global National Member Organization Training, was a really valuable and thought provoking day.
The plenary sessions set the tone well, especially Dr Glenn Pierce’s presentation on the evolving treatment landscape.
It was incredibly insightful to hear about how treatment continues to progress, from current therapies through to emerging options, and what that means for patient communities, education, access, and future advocacy.
Sessions like that are a strong reminder that while science is advancing quickly, the work of patient organisations remains just as important in helping ensure those advances translate into real and equitable outcomes for people living with bleeding disorders.
Another strong theme throughout the day was advocacy.
From the strategic advocacy plenary through to the breakout workshops, the focus was not just on understanding issues, but on how to respond to them in a practical and effective way.
In our group, facilitated by Ekawat Suwantaroj, we worked through project scenarios, SWOT analysis, stakeholder thinking, and message building.
That made the learning feel very real and grounded, especially when applying it to challenges that patient organisations may face in their own countries.
One of my biggest takeaways from today was that effective advocacy is not just about passion.
It is about being clear on the issue, understanding the barriers, knowing your audience, and building a practical path forward that can actually create change.
Grateful to be here learning alongside passionate leaders from around the world, and proud to represent Australia in these important conversations.
Looking forward to the next few days.”
