Mohammed A. Elbahloul: Every Minute Counts in STEMI Revascularization
Mohammed A. Elbahloul, Guest Editor at Plos One, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and her colleagues co-authored, published in Cardiovascular Interventions logo Journal, adding:
”I’m pleased to share that our manuscript, ‘Timing of Complete Revascularization in Patients With STEMI and Multivessel Disease: An Updated Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials,’ has been published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions (IF: 7.4).
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my co-authors and mentors for their invaluable contributions and support throughout this work.
Key Findings:
- Primary Outcome: In hemodynamically stable patients with STEMI and multivessel disease, an immediate complete revascularization (ICR) strategy may be associated with an increased risk of short-term cardiac death compared with staged complete revascularization (SCR).
- Mortality Trends: Based on the current evidence, a potential increase in both early and late all-cause mortality with ICR cannot be excluded.
- Secondary Endpoints: No significant differences were observed between ICR and SCR in myocardial infarction, repeat revascularization, stent thrombosis, stroke, or major bleeding.
- Clinical Implications: While some uncertainty remains, these findings support a staged complete revascularization strategy for most patients with STEMI and multivessel disease.”
