Alexis N. Smith: How Apolipoproteins Influence Platelet Function
Alexis N. Smith, Postdoctoral Fellow at Versiti Inc., shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in JTH, adding:
”Excited to share that my 1st first‑author publication from my postdoc has been published as a JTH Commentary in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
In this commentary, we discussed a recent paper by W. C. Schrottmaier et al., ‘Elevated levels of apolipoprotein C‑III impair platelet function and reduce thrombosis,’ which highlights an unexpected role for apoC‑III beyond its well‑known links to atherosclerosis.
Their work uncovered that apoC‑III can directly inhibit platelet activation and thrombus formation, providing an important foundation for ongoing research into how apolipoproteins influence platelet function.
Many thanks to my postdoctoral mentor, Ze Zheng, for the support and guidance.”
