Conan McIlwrath at the Rare Bleeding Disorders Conference Representing The Haemophilia Society as Chair
Conan McIlwrath, Chair of the Board of Directors at The Haemophilia Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Heading back home from an inspiring few days at the Rare Bleeding Disorders Conference in Birmingham, representing The Haemophilia Society as Chair.
What stood out most wasn’t the differences between conditions, it was the shared experience across the room.
Different diagnoses, different journeys, but so many common threads: resilience, uncertainty, advocacy, family, treatment challenges, and the determination to leave things better for the next generation.
As someone from a generation that still remembers older and, at times, dangerous treatments, it was powerful hearing stories from across the rare community.
Many of us carry the battle scars of earlier eras, physically and emotionally, but conferences like this remind you just how far progress has come, and why we cannot stop pushing forward.
There was a real sense of collaboration throughout the event.
Researchers, clinicians, charities, industry, families and patients all in one room, listening to each other and learning from each other.
That matters.
Progress rarely happens in isolation.
A special thank you to the organisers, speakers, working groups, sponsors, staff and volunteers who made the event happen, and to everyone who shared their personal experiences so openly.
Those conversations are what drive change.
Most importantly, thank you to the community!”
