Tuba Atahan: The Red Thread Linking Patients Families and Progress at EHA 2026

Tuba Atahan, VP and Regional Commercial Strategist Lead Hematology at J and J Innovative Medicine Europe, Middle East and Africa, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As we head into EHA 2026, this congress feels especially personal.

Over the past few months, I’ve experienced illness not only through the lens of working in healthcare, but as a daughter. Losing my dad has been a painful reminder that while innovation continues to move forward at an extraordinary pace, time remains the one thing we can never give back.

There’s a red thread running through EHA this year, connecting the scientific advances we’ll discuss in Stockholm — from earlier intervention and first-line treatment strategies to emerging therapies, deeper responses, and greater opportunities for people living with blood cancers.

For me, it also connects something more human: patients, families, hope, and urgency.

We now have an expanding range of highly effective therapies across haematology.

But it’s important to remember that their impact depends not only on the treatment itself, but also on everything around it: timely diagnosis, access to care, effective pathways, and the opportunity for patients to receive the right treatment at the right time.

For me, that’s the red thread connecting science, patients, families, and the conversations we’ll be having this week. Because behind every data point, every study, and every scientific advance is something deeply personal: the chance for more time.

More time with family. More time for milestones. More time for moments that matter.

Progress only matters if people have the chance to benefit from it.”
