Debra BenAvram: Every Two Seconds – Someone Needs Blood
Debra BenAvram, Chief Executive Officer at AABB, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Every two seconds, someone needs blood.
A trauma patient being rushed to the ER.
A mother fighting to survive childbirth.
A child with sickle cell disease. A cancer patient making it through another round of treatment.
They are all counting on a stranger they will never meet, someone who cared enough to roll up their sleeve.
Blood can’t be manufactured. It can only be generously donated.
And here’s the thing: it’s the blood already on the shelf that saves lives. When the ER doors fly open, there’s no time to wait.
Hospitals depend on a steady, reliable supply which means they depend on regular donors, not just one-time heroes.
So if you’re already a blood donor, thank you.
You may never know whose life you changed, but you made a huge difference for someone special.
And if you haven’t yet, or it’s been a while, today is a perfect day to make it part of your regular routine.
Find a location near you.”
