Bastian Volbers: ESO and SESAM Sign Landmark Affiliation Agreement at SESAM 2026
Bastian Volbers, Senior Physician at the University Clinic for Neurology, Inselspital Bern, shared on LinkedIn:
”I am deeply honored and delighted to have signed today, at the SESAM 2026 Annual Meeting in Lyon, the affiliation agreement between the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) and the Society for Simulation in Europe, on behalf of ESO and in my role as Chair of the ESO Stroke Simulation Education Committee.
This partnership marks an important milestone in our shared vision: bringing high-quality simulation-based education to stroke care teams across Europe.
Simulation is a powerful educational tool with strong scientific evidence demonstrating its ability to improve team performance, communication, decision-making, and clinical processes.
Ultimately, better-trained teams translate into better stroke care and improved patient outcomes.
Through this strategic collaboration, ESO and SESAM will strengthen their close cooperation, foster knowledge exchange, create new synergies, and combine the unique strengths of both organizations.
Together, we aim to build a European network of simulation educators and stroke experts, support the training of future instructors, and accelerate the implementation of simulation-based training throughout the entire stroke pathway.
Most importantly, this affiliation brings together two vibrant and rapidly evolving fields—simulation medicine and stroke care—creating a unique platform to drive innovation, education, research, and quality improvement across Europe.
A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to making this partnership possible.
I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to working together to advance stroke simulation education for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals alike.”
