Ilkin Aygun Soyalp: Novel Substrate Recognition Broadens the Biological Role of DPF-3
Ilkin Aygun Soyalp, Postdoctoral Researcher at Center for Advanced Technologies, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in EMBO Reports, adding:
“Proteases are essential regulators of cellular homeostasis.
In our latest paper, we broaden the understanding of substrate specificity and physiological relevance of DPF-3, a member of the DPPIV family proteases, combining unbiased proteomics with functional validation.
We identify MEP-1 as a DPF-3 substrate cleaved after a threonine residue, the first physiological DPPIV-family substrate with a noncanonical P1 residue.
Preventing this cleavage destabilizes MEP-1 and impairs reproductive development, demonstrating that this processing is functionally essential.
