Vicky Williams: The Impact of the Stroke Same Day Emergency Care Model on The Outcomes

Vicky Williams, Nurse Consultant for Stroke at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article she and John Williams co-authored, published in British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, adding:

”I’m really proud to share my first co-authored published article in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing.

This has been quite a long journey from being involved in the development of the Stroke Same Day Emergency Care pathway in practice, to evaluating its impact, writing the article, going through peer review and now seeing it published.

The article explores the impact of the Stroke SDEC model at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where I was proud to be part of the service design and and operational leadership during my time there.

The evaluation looked at key time-critical stroke care metrics, including time to consultant review, arrival on the stroke unit and thrombolysis, alongside patient and family feedback.

It is really rewarding to see the positive impact of this pathway shared more widely.

This work reflects the effort of a whole team committed to improving stroke care, patient flow and patient experience.

A huge thank you to everyone at MTW who contributed to the development and delivery of the pathway, and to my co-author John Williams.

A proud moment and hopefully the first of many publications.”
