Andreas Calatzis: Hidden Differences in Anti-Xa Testing
Andreas Calatzis, Managing Director of Eonis GmbH and Dynabyte GmbH, shared Stago‘s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Interesting post.
It is indeed very good that not all anti-Xa tests contain dextran sulfate (Stago and Technoclone do not, while Werfen, Hyphen and Siemens do).”
Stago shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Dextran sulfate, a small ingredient with a big impact on Anti‑Xa results
Let’s talk about the key factor behind major Anti‑Xa variability dextran sulfate (DS)
Some Anti‑Xa reagents include DS to dissociate heparin-protein complexes in the tube.
It means that two Anti‑Xa reagents can give two different stories – only one reflects the patient.
The critical issue is that dextran sulfate:
- Does not reflect physiological conditions.
- Can cause major overestimation.
- May change clinical decisions.
Knowing what’s inside your reagent is essential for reliable heparin monitoring.
We will be at ISTH2026, in Paris!
