Michiel Coppens: A Hemostasis Laboratory – One of the Cornerstones of Our Hemophilia Mission
Michiel Coppens, Internist Vascular Medicine of Haemophilia Treatment Centre at Amsterdam UMC, Treasurer and Chair of the Working Group on Thrombosis and Hemostasis at NVIVG, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“One can not deliver healthcare for persons with bleeding disorders without a hemostasis laboratory.
From the very start of our hemophilia mission in 2009 in Surinam, South America, John Codrington‘s hemostasis laboratory at Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo has been one of the cornerstones of this mission.
In fact, eligibility for the World Federation of Hemophilia Humanitarian Aid Program is in part dependent on the presence of diagnostic facilities.
We have always enjoyed John’s collaborating attitude and willingsness to build local innovation though these years and the periodic in-person meeting like we had this week. And of course we have seen so many enthousiastic colleagues there who’s diligent work remain a crucial part of that success in sometimes challenging economic and political circumstances.
Sheldon Simson, Siëda Bont, Sephora Pobosie and, of course, aided with knowledge, experience, and resources from afar from my wonderful colleagues of the Hemostasis laboratory at Amsterdam UMC; Henrike Hamer (and the great people working there).”
