”The new 2026 Stroke Clinical Care Standard (see below) has landed and for the first time, it formally embeds nursing‑led fever and hyperglycaemia management as essential components of stroke unit care.
This is a major milestone for stroke nursing and reflects the evidence from QASC Trial and the FeSS Protocols, now written into national expectations.
A huge step forward for patient outcomes and for the visibility of nursing leadership in stroke care.”

For 46,000 people likely to have a stroke in Australia this year, an updated national standard puts in place steps to equip them to rebuild their lives and regain independence when they return home.
If a person survives a stroke, it can be a shock to them and their families to realise how much ongoing support they need after hospital discharge.
Today the Commission released the updated Stroke Clinical Care Standard 2026 with new guidance on how to support people recovering from stroke after they leave hospital.”
