Heghine Khachatryan: Novel Biomarkers for Cancer-Associated Thrombosis

Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, shared Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH)’s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“A highly promising contribution to the field of cancer-associated thrombosis.

The identification of novel plasma proteomic biomarkers has the potential to transform risk stratification by enabling earlier, more accurate, and personalized prediction of thrombotic events in patients with malignancy.

Integrating biomarker discovery with advanced proteomics and machine learning may pave the way toward precision medicine, optimized thromboprophylaxis, and improved clinical outcomes.

Further validation in large, multicenter prospective cohorts will be essential before routine clinical implementation.

Congratulations to the authors on this outstanding and clinically relevant work.”

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Preeti et al., adding:

“Development of novel plasma proteomic biomarkers for cancer-associated thrombosis in an advanced cancer cohort

Affinity-based plasma proteomics flagged early cancer-associated thrombosis.

In a nested case-control study of 57 cases and 113 matched controls across five cancer types, a random survival forest model screening 5,416 proteins predicted 30-day thrombosis well (ROC 0.83), though accuracy fell by 180 days.

Top proteins sat in platelet activation, fibrin formation, and complement pathways.”
