Mandy Lauw: International Collaboration Provides New Evidence for Splanchnic Vein Thrombosis Care
Mandy Lauw, Internist-Hematologist at Erasmus MC, reposted from JTH on LinkedIn, about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in JTH, adding:
”Proud of this important publication on splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) by our PhD-student Amica Ko.
- Similar recurrence, bleeding and survival outcomes of SVT with MPN and without MPN
- Patients with MPN and SVT can likely be treated similarly to patients with non-cirrhosis, non-malignancy associated SVT
Work in close partnership with Italian colleagues Laura Milana, Nicoletta Riva and Walter Ageno.
And thanks to collaborators of the 3 included studies from across the world, among which Marc Carrier, Peter Verhamme, Laurent Bertoletti, Aurelien Delluc Pieter, Willem Kamphuisen, Alejandro Lazo Langner, Elvira Grandone, Alberto Tosetto, Frank Leebeek.”
Quoting Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH)‘s post:
”Splanchnic vein thrombosis with and without myeloproliferative neoplasms: a comparative cohort study
Does a myeloproliferative neoplasm change the outlook after splanchnic vein thrombosis?
In this large cohort, rates of recurrent thrombosis, bleeding, and survival at six months were similar whether or not patients had an MPN.
The authors suggest MPN-related splanchnic vein thrombosis can be managed much like noncirrhotic, nonmalignant disease, while longer prospective follow-up is still needed.”
