Aviva Schwartz: Air Pollution and Women’s Hematological Health in the Spotlight at ISTH 2026
Aviva Schwartz, Director of Education at Vasculearn Network, shared on LinkedIn:
“Back in Boston after another hot (literally hot) ISTH 2026 Congress in France!
I always love learning what’s new in thrombosis and hemostasis, but this year I was pleased to see a growing emphasis on two topics worthy of the spotlight:
- Air pollution and vascular health – thank you, International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), for a fantastic plenary session, and Scott Woller for an excellent follow-up presentation.
- Women’s hematological health, highlighted by outstanding sessions on The Lancet Haematology Commission on Global Female Health and Haematology and a standing-room-only session on peripartum anticoagulation management (cc: Bethany Samuelson Bannow).
These issues are critically important, and I’m so glad to see them receiving the attention they deserve.
It was great spending time with Vasculearn Network board members Alfonso J. Tafur, Alex C Spyropoulos, Scott Woller, Jelena Spyropoulos, and Tara Lech, and seeing colleagues engage with our newest educational initiatives: new Clot, Clot, Who’s There? podcast episodes and our newly launched Factor XI Clinician Hub and No Time to Wait series on managing urgent surgery and major bleeding in patients receiving factor Xa inhibitors.
Thanks to everyone who shared feedback, stopped to say hello, and picked up one of our luggage tags—and thank you, Thieme, for hosting them at your booth!
As always, the best part of ISTH is reconnecting with colleagues and friends from around the world.
Nathan Connell said it best:
‘Conferences like ISTH are about more than the science. They’re also about the people, the relationships that endure over decades, and the unexpected intersections that remind us just how small our world can be.’
Kudos to the ISTH staff, Louise St. Germain Bannon, Barbara Adams Krolak, Samantha Nelson, Luke Blount, Martha Ramirez, and so many others, who worked tirelessly to make this meeting a success.
Until Vancouver 2027!”
