Bushra Salman: Avatrombopag Shows Promise in Heavily Pretreated Chronic ITP
Bushra Salman, Pharmacist at Sultan Qaboos University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Frontiers in Medicine, adding:
“I am delighted to share our latest publication in Frontiers in Medicine:
‘Avatrombopag in Heavily Pretreated Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia: A Single-Center Experience from Oman.’
Patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who have failed multiple prior therapies remain challenging to treat.
In our real-world case series from Oman, avatrombopag demonstrated clinically meaningful benefits beyond improving platelet counts.
Key findings include:
- 75 percent of patients achieved platelet counts greater than or equal to 50 × 10⁹/L.
- 60 percent of patients with high baseline platelet transfusion requirements experienced a reduction in platelet transfusion burden.
- 83.3 percent achieved a steroid-sparing effect, with 66.7 percent becoming completely steroid-free during follow-up.
These findings highlight the potential of avatrombopag not only to improve platelet responses but also outcomes that can significantly improve patient care and quality of life.”
