Carven Setiawan: The Future of Haemostasis Is Proactive – Reflections from APHEAM 2026

Carven Setiawan, Senior Manager, Professional Education, Ethicon Asia Pacific Johnson & Johnson MedTech, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As the excitement and adrenaline from APHEAM 2026 subsided, I took the opportunity to reflect on the experience.

The 2026 Asia Pacific Hemostasis Ed Advisory Meeting (APHEAM 2026) highlighted a shift from reactive bleeding control to a proactive, patient-centred haemostasis pathway.

Exactly 2 weeks ago, close to 70 healthcare professionals from across Asia Pacific gathered together to exchange real-world clinical experience, share best practice and learn from one another.

Many topics were discussed, debated and exchanged.

These 3 things particularly stayed with me:

  1. Haemostasis begin before the first incision. Effective bleeding management is not a product decision made in the OR. The consensus across specialties was that anticipation is more effective than rescue.
  2. Successful Haemostasis depends on clinical judgement and preparation. This underscores the opportunity for Johnson & Johnson MedTech to move beyond products but as an education partner facilitating evidence-based education and clinical best practice sharing.
  3. I witnessed and admired the remarkable commitments of participating HCPs to continually refine their practice through learning, reflection, and collaboration. This culture of knowledge exchange is essential to driving better surgical outcomes and improving quality of patient care.

I’m incredible thankful to the Scientific Committee Members for your partnership in shaping the scientific agenda and for the camaraderie of my colleagues who played various roles in making APHEAM 2026 a success.

You know who you are.

Thank you.”
