How Common Are Blood Clots in Rare Bleeding Disorders? – Glanzmann’s Research Foundation
Glanzmann’s Research Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Majid Naderi et al. published in Thrombosis Journal, adding:
“New research provides additional evidence that blood clots are uncommon in people with rare bleeding disorders.
A newly published peer-reviewed study of 1,251 people with rare bleeding disorders, including 62 people with Glanzmann Thrombasthenia, found that blood clots were rare and were most often associated with well-known risk factors such as pregnancy, surgery, infection, or certain treatments, rather than the bleeding disorder itself.
Just as important is how this research was presented.
The authors openly discuss the study’s limitations, avoid overstating their findings, declare no competing interests, report no industry funding, and repeatedly call for additional research instead of making broad treatment recommendations.
This is exactly the kind of balanced, patient-first science our community deserves.
As new therapies continue to emerge for rare diseases, we hope more research follows this example by presenting data objectively, acknowledging uncertainty, and helping patients and healthcare providers make informed decisions based on the available evidence.
Evidence should guide decisions. Not marketing.”
