Noa Ezra: How Senescent Cardiac Cells Drive a Pro-Thrombotic State

Noa Ezra, Biotechnology Engineer, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Indian GeroScience, adding։

”I’m excited to share that our research article, ‘Senescent cardiac cells promote thrombus formation and impair fibrinolysis,’ has been published in GeroScience.

This work was conducted as part of my M.Sc. We investigated how cellular senescence in cardiac fibroblasts and endothelial cells may contribute to the increased risk of thrombosis with aging.

We found that senescent cardiac cells promote fibrin formation through increased thrombin-related activity, while also impairing fibrinolysis — the process responsible for breaking down blood clots.

Our findings suggest a direct cellular link between senescence and a pro-thrombotic state and highlight cellular senescence as a potential therapeutic target in age-related thrombotic disease.
