Megan Adediran: Building Confidence for a Life Beyond Haemophilia

Megan Adediran, Executive Director at Hemophilia Foundation of Nigeria, shared a post LinkedIn:

”A Mother’s Heart: Countdown to Camp Bravehearts

Series 7: The Gift of Independence

One of the hardest things for any parent is learning to let go.

When your child lives with haemophilia, that can feel even more difficult.

For years, I wanted to protect my sons from every fall, every injury, every disappointment.

I wanted to be there every time they needed treatment, every time they faced a challenge.

But I eventually realized something important.

The greatest gift I could give them was not constant protection.

It was independence.

At Camp Bravehearts, I have watched young people take important steps toward becoming more confident and responsible.

They learn about their condition, understand how to recognize a bleed early, speak up for themselves, make informed decisions, and, where appropriate, develop skills that help them take greater responsibility for their own care under professional guidance.

Something remarkable happens when a young person realizes, ‘I can do this.’

Their posture changes.

Their confidence grows.

Their future suddenly looks different.

As a mother, those moments fill my heart with hope.

Because one day, our children will go to university, start careers, build families, and pursue their dreams.

They need more than our love.

They need the confidence to navigate life with wisdom and courage.

That is one of the greatest gifts Camp Bravehearts offers.

It doesn’t teach our children to depend on others.

It helps them discover how capable they truly are.

As we continue our countdown to Camp Bravehearts 2026, my prayer is that every camper will leave not only with wonderful memories, but with a deeper belief in themselves and the confidence to face the future.

Because our goal has never been to raise children who are defined by haemophilia.

Our goal is to raise young people who are equipped to live full, purposeful, and independent lives.”
