Azin Kheirkhah: New Research on OSE-IgM Antibodies and Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Azin Kheirkhah, Scientist at the Medical University of Innsbruck, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, adding

“I’m very happy to share that our recent work has been published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology (ATVB)

This study investigated the association between circulating IgM antibodies against oxidation-specific epitopes (OSEs) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

We found that higher levels of OSE-IgM were associated with a lower likelihood of late AMD, suggesting a potential protective role of these antibodies in AMD development and progression.

I’m especially happy to share this publication as it is one of the outcomes of my time in Vienna and a great collaboration between the Medical University of Innsbruck– Florian Kronenberg Lab and the Medical University of Vienna – Christoph Binder Lab.
