Obi Light Ogbonnia: From 52 Years of Living With Sickle Cell to a Global Stage

Obi Light Ogbonnia, Founder and President of Sickle Cell Foundation and Chief Executive Officer at VTN Global Resources Limited, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”52 Years of Sickle Cell. One Journey. One Global Stage.

I have lived with sickle cell disease for 52 years.

I know the pain. I know the hospital visits. I know the uncertainty. But I also know the strength, resilience and hope that come with the journey.

Now, that journey takes me to Nairobi, Kenya, for the 3rd Global Sickle Cell Disease Conference, from September 1–3, 2026.

This time, I won’t be there just to listen.

I have been invited to speak, share my lived experience and represent the voices of sickle cell warriors at the Warriors Focus Group and Panel Discussion.

I am deeply grateful to Biba TINGA and the Global Alliance of Sickle Cell Disease Organizations (GASCDO) for creating this important platform and for the honour of inviting me to contribute to the conversation.

As Founder/President of the Obi Ogbonnia Sickle Cell Foundation (OOSCF), I look forward to joining warriors, researchers, clinicians, advocates and policymakers from around the world.

Because those who live with sickle cell must be part of shaping the solutions.

Our pain has a story.

Our survival has a message.

Our voices can change the future.”
