Will Thomas: Why Dose Every Missed Thromboprophylaxis Matter

Will Thomas, Consultant haematologist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Scott G. Louis et al, published in JAMA Surgery, adding:

“Experts are often asked to give an opinion on causation when there had been missed prophylactic low-molecular weight heparin doses and hospital acquired thrombosis.

One of the few things we can do is to avoid missed doses. This was identified by a previous GIRFT survey in 2021.

Every case is unique and requires meticulous attention to the circumstances and particular details of the case.

This paper gives valuable data in this area.

Which is helpful for experts albeit data remains limited.”

Title: Correlation of Missed Doses of Enoxaparin With Increased Incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis in Trauma and General Surgery Patients
