Liri Seraj: How Summer Dehydration Affects Blood and Thrombosis Risk
Liri Seraj, Hematologist at Spitali Rajonal Memorial, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Summer heat does more than make us thirsty.
Dehydration can temporarily change haemoglobin, haematocrit and other blood results.
And for patients living with conditions such as sickle cell disease, myeloproliferative neoplasms or haematological malignancies, maintaining adequate hydration may deserve even more attention.
In my latest article, I look at what dehydration actually does to our blood, what the evidence says about thrombosis and vaso-occlusive risk, and a few simple precautions for the summer months.
Sometimes a small habit, like remembering to drink enough water, matters more than we think.”
