Christopher Cannon: Discontinuation vs. Continuation of Statin Therapy in Adults Aged Under 75
Christopher Cannon, Cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Editor-in-Chief of Harvard Heart Letter, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Fabrice Bonnet, published in The Lancet Healthy Longevity, adding:
“Small randomized trial of stopping statins vs continuing in the elderly (low than 75) showed no diff in mortality but the expected trends for higher risk (about 20-30% higher) for MI stroke and MACE events).
No quality of life benefit for ‘deprescribing’.
So – best to keep the statin going!”
