David McIntosh: The Growing Global Demand for Plasma-Derived Therapies
David McIntosh, Founder and Chair of United Plasma Action, shared Neha Patil‘s post on LinkedIn:
“This is an interesting and informative post.
However, it needs to come with a health warning.
The total effort of all the companies listed here, plus all the others involved, plus the Public and non-profit participants, only add up to a total global plasma-derived medicines availability of less than one quarter of what’s actually required.
Eighty percent or more of the global need for plasma-derived medicines goes unmet.
There is just soooo much more work to do.
This is not to criticise the Industry or any members of it – just to point out that this is not an area for hyperbolic optimism.
It’s a field requiring grim determination to work on improving a thoroughly sub-optimal global situation.”
Neha Patil, Search Engine Optimization Executive at Persistence Market Research (UK), shared a post in the Pharma Business group on LinkedIn:
“The Future of Blood Plasma: Advancing Life-Saving Therapies Through Plasma-Derived Innovation
The blood plasma industry plays a vital role in modern healthcare by enabling the production of plasma-derived therapies for immunology, hematology, neurology, and critical care.
Rising demand for immunoglobulins, increasing plasma collection activities, and continuous advancements in biopharmaceutical manufacturing are driving market growth worldwide.
The global Blood Plasma Market is expected to be valued at US$ 33.5 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach US$ 54.2 billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 7.1% between 2026 and 2033.
As demand for plasma-derived medicines continues to increase, the market is evolving through several key trends:
- Growing demand for immunoglobulins, albumin, and coagulation factor therapies
- Increasing investments in plasma collection centers and fractionation technologies
- Rising prevalence of immune deficiencies, bleeding disorders, and rare chronic diseases
- Expanding research and development focused on next-generation plasma-derived therapeutics
