New Study Highlights Pregnancy Challenges in Inherited Bleeding Disorders – Glanzmann’s Research Foundation

Glanzmann’s Research Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A new 2026 study is providing more insight into pregnancy and inherited bleeding disorders, including Glanzmann Thrombasthenia (GT).

Researchers compared 81 pregnancies involving inherited bleeding disorders with 162 matched controls and found higher rates of maternal bleeding complications and fetal/neonatal mortality in the overall bleeding disorder group.

But there’s an important distinction for the GT community: only seven women in the study had Glanzmann Thrombasthenia, and the researchers could not reliably analyze outcomes by individual bleeding disorder.

That means the overall statistics should not be interpreted as the specific pregnancy risks for someone with GT.

The research does reinforce the importance of individualized pregnancy planning and coordinated care between hematology, obstetrics, and neonatal teams.

We’ve broken down the study, its findings, and what they actually mean for the GT community in our latest article.”
