How Mutant p53 Hijacks VWF Expression in Tumor Cells – JTH

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Noorossadat Seyyedi et al., adding:

”The role of mutant p53R175H in de novo activation of von Willebrand factor expression in tumor cells

Von Willebrand factor is normally made only by endothelial cells and megakaryocytes, yet some cancers switch it on.

Across 100 VWF-positive cancer lines, this study tied that aberrant expression to the mutant p53R175H, which engages the repressor NF-IB and activator GATA6 to drive VWF from the promoter.

The resulting VWF fueled cancer cell to platelet aggregates, and plakoglobin reversed the effect.”
