Joseph Mmwa: WHO Unveils Regional Health Data Hub to Advance Data-Driven Health Decisions
Joseph Mmwa, Health News Publisher and Aggregator, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa has launched the Regional Health Data Hub (RDHUB) to bring health information from across the region together and make it easier for countries to access, analyse and use trusted data for health decisions.
The platform currently includes 53 datasets and 7,965 health indicators covering all 47 WHO African Region Member States. So far, 65 percent of datasets have been ingested, while data for 45 percent of indicators are available through the web portal. WHO aims to reach at least 80 percent dataset ingestion by the end of 2026.
The Hub is designed to help countries connect information from different health programmes and systems, allowing decision-makers to explore trends, compare progress and identify emerging health priorities.
For example, immunization planners can combine vaccination coverage, disease surveillance and population data to identify areas with low coverage or increased disease risk.
WHO says the initiative is intended to complement, not replace, national health information systems.
Countries retain ownership of their data, while a regional data-governance framework sets out responsibilities around data ownership, stewardship, access and sharing.
The platform will also be expanded with additional datasets, analytical tools and country profiles, while artificial intelligence will be further leveraged for pattern identification, automated narrative generation and decision-support capabilities.
The goal, according to WHO, is not simply to collect more health data, but to turn fragmented information into actionable intelligence that can help countries make better decisions and improve health outcomes across Africa.”
