David McIntosh: International Plasma Awareness Week 2026 – Closing the Global Plasma Gap
David McIntosh, Founder and Chair of United Plasma Action, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“International Plasma Awareness Week 2026
Words well worth sharing!
Raphaela Vedia and millions of fellow rare disease sufferers all over the World are eternally grateful to Blood and Plasma Donors for the life-saving medicines they make possible.
So why do we need to know?
Because:
- Globally, we need four times as many donations as are currently being collected
- In many Low and Middle Income Countries, there are no facilities for pure plasma donation – and too little capacity for the recovery of plasma from blood donations
- Hundreds of millions of rare disease sufferers therefore have to struggle on without the plasma-derived medicines they need
- The unnecessary suffering and avoidable mortality this causes are shocking and shameful
All of us with any hope of making a difference should please do our bit.”
