Anas Zayad: Pleased to Share Our New Review on Thrombosis in SCD and Beta Thalassemia
Anas Zayad, Internal Medicine Resident at Hamad Medical Corporation, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and Mohamed A. Yassin co-authored, published in Thalassemia Reports, adding:
“Pleased to share our new review on thrombosis in sickle cell disease and β-thalassemia.
Thrombotic risk is driven by interconnected mechanisms including hemolysis, endothelial dysfunction, platelet activation, tissue factor expression, and enhanced thrombin generation, with NETosis, ADAMTS13–VWF dysregulation, and complement activation emerging as additional pathways.
No validated disease-specific biomarker or risk model currently guides routine thromboprophylaxis; current practice therefore relies largely on general VTE recommendations and assessment of overall thrombotic and bleeding risk.”
