Carolina Moreira Ponce: Thrombosis Month – Why Prevention Starts With Risk Assessment
Carolina Moreira Ponce, Hematologist at Solca Guayaquil, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“October – Thrombosis Month – WTD.
Venous thromboembolism continues to be a relevant and, in many scenarios, potentially preventable challenge.
From the hematological practice, prevention should be based on an individual and dynamic assessment of thrombotic and hemorrhagic risk, especially in hospitalization, surgery, cancer, and high-risk clinical situations.
International guidelines emphasize that prophylaxis and anticoagulation should be indicated on an individualized basis, considering the clinical context, the risk of recurrence, and the risk of bleeding.
In Thrombosis Month, promoted by World Thrombosis Day (WTD), we reinforce a health priority: recognizing risk early allows us to prevent potentially serious events and improve patient safety.”
