Brittany Busse: A New Focus on Iron Deficiency Before Anemia
Brittany Busse, Executive Director of Female Health and Optimization at Velocity Health, shared a post on X:
“If you’ve ever heard, ‘Well, the good news is you’re not anemic,’ while suffering from fatigue, slowed cognition, poor recovery, and impaired performance, the American Society of Hematology has good news for you.
They have updated the recommendations and cutoffs for iron deficiency based on ferritin levels, specifically with higher cutoffs for menstruating women.
While the cutoff is still below what I would consider functionally adequate, it’s a start towards recognizing and treating iron deficiency before anemia sets in.”
