Thalassaemia International Federation Joins ASCAT 2026 to Advance Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Care

Thalassaemia International Federation shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) is participating in Academy For Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (ASCAT) 2026, the 21st Annual Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Conference, taking place from 7–10 October at Central Hall Westminster in London.

Representing TIF are:

  • Dr. Androulla Eleftheriou, Executive Director
  • Dr. Michael Angastiniotis, Medical Advisor
  • George Constantinou, Board Member
  • Lily Cannon, Deputy Director

Our delegation joins clinicians, researchers and patient advocates from across the international haemoglobinopathy community to exchange expertise, strengthen partnerships and advance sustainable, equitable care.

This afternoon, Dr. Angastiniotis will deliver a presentation during ‘A Still-Evolving Global Health Burden’.

The session will examine global epidemiology, burden estimation and the changing demographics of thalassaemia, with implications for health policy, service planning and responsiveness to patients’ needs.

3:30–4:30 p.m. (London time) | Robert Perks Room

The opening session also marked the launch of ‘Thalassaemia revisited: from health burden to breakthroughs’, a new series from The Lancet Haematology and The Lancet Regional Health – Southeast Asia.

This extensive international collaboration examines epidemiology, prevention, therapeutic advances and future priorities for care.

Dr. Eleftheriou and Dr. Angastiniotis are among its authors, alongside numerous distinguished experts from around the world, including several of TIF’s scientific partners.”
