Mohammad Alashqar: A Year in Thrombosis – What Changed?

Mohammad Alashqar, Postdoctoral Pharmacotherapy Research Fellow at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, shared on LinkedIn:

“World Thrombosis Day 2026 | A Year in Thrombosis: What Changed?

On World Thrombosis Day, I wanted to look beyond awareness and reflect on how the thrombosis field has evolved over the past year – October 13, 2025 to October 13, 2026.

It has been an important year for thrombosis research and clinical practice, with evolving guidelines, new therapeutic developments, major Phase 3 trial results, regulatory updates, and continued progress toward safer antithrombotic strategies.

The year also reinforced an important lesson: progress is not defined only by positive trials. Negative and neutral studies are equally valuable when they refine our understanding of where, when, and in whom new therapies should be used.

One of the most closely watched areas remains Factor XI/XIa inhibition, where agents such as asundexian, milvexian, and abelacimab continue to test a compelling question:

Can we prevent thrombosis effectively while causing less bleeding?

The answer will require rigorous evidence, appropriate patient selection, and careful interpretation of both successes and setbacks.

This infographic highlights selected developments from the past 12 months and the directions that may shape the next chapter of thrombosis prevention and treatment.

On World Thrombosis Day, the mission remains clear:

Prevent clots. Optimize care. Advance science. Improve lives.”
