Bogda Koczwara: Pre-Existing and New CVD in Patients With Cancer Are Associated With Higher Mortality
Bogda Koczwara, Director of Australian Research Centre for Cancer Survivorship at UNSW, Professor of Departament of Medical Oncology at Flinders University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Cancer Medicine, adding:
“Approximately 1 in 5 patients diagnosed with cancer have pre-existing cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Once their finish their treatment, approximately 1 in 4 of those without pre-existing CVD develop new CVD.
Both pre-exisitng and new CVD are associated with higher cancer and CVD mortality.
These are the findings of our latest study led by Md. Mijanur Rahman reporting on data from over 60,000 individuals. Compelling argument for integration of CVD risk assessment pre, during, and after treatment.”
