Edward C.C. Wong: Navigating the Implications of the 2026 ASH Guidelines for Blood Donation
Edward C.C. Wong, Medical Director of Coagulation at Quest Diagnostics, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Honored to be able to moderate an educational session on ‘The Potential Impact of the 2026 American Society of Hematology Guidelines on Blood Donation’ at AABB National Meeting in Atlanta, GA.
Is it an existential threat to blood donation or could it be an improvement to blood donation and the nation’s blood supply?
Should blood centers be more actively involved in the health and well being of its blood donors like other countries such as Canada, the Netherlands and Australia?
Should we monitor ferritin in our donors?
This session had two outstanding speakers Alan Mast from Versiti and Ralph Vassallo from Vitalant who shed light on these questions.
Session: AM26-SU-07-L – Potential Impact of the 2026 ASH Guidelines for Iron Deficiency on Blood Donation: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (October 18, 2026).”
