Abdul Muqtadir Abbasi: Hemostasis Isn’t About Memorizing Factor Numbers – It’s About Recognizing Patterns
Abdul Muqtadir Abbasi, Assistant Consultant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, shared a post on X:
“Hemostasis isn’t about memorizing factor numbers – it’s about recognizing patterns.
- Mucosal bleeding: Think platelet disorders or von Willebrand disease.
- Deep muscle or joint bleeds: Think coagulation factor deficiencies.
- Simultaneous prolonged PT and aPTT: Common pathway, severe liver disease, DIC, or vitamin K deficiency.
- Normal PT and aPTT do not equal Normal hemostasis. Don’t forget FXIII deficiency, platelet function disorders, and mild vWD.
Learn the physiology, not just the algorithm. The labs will start making sense.”
