Ahmed Koriesh: Inside Our 2026 Stroke Simulation Lab
Ahmed Koriesh, Director of Hospital Neurology Service at Cleveland Clinic Florida, shared on LinkedIn:
”Stroke Simulation Lab 2026
One of our favorite educational events of the year.
If you ask incoming PGY-2 Neurology residents what they are most anxious about, many will answer the same way: running their first stroke code.
Our annual Stroke Simulation Lab is designed to change that.
Using real stroke cases, standardized patients (actors), and audio/video recording with structured feedback, residents manage acute stroke scenarios in a realistic environment before facing them in the emergency department.
The goal isn’t simply to teach stroke medicine—it’s to:
- Build confidence before the first overnight call
- Standardize our stroke code workflow across the entire team
- Improve efficiency, communication, and ultimately patient safety
- Reduce errors during one of the most time-critical emergencies.
Our residents consistently tell us this is one of the most valuable educational experiences of the year, and it’s rewarding to see how much more confident they are when that first real stroke code arrives.
A huge thank you to our faculty Dr. Mubashir Pervez, Dr. Gaurav Kapoor, and our chief resident Dr. McKethan Parker for making this year’s simulation a success.
If you’re interested in developing similiar Stroke Simulation Lab at your institution, feel free to reach out —we’d be happy to share our experience, curriculum, cases, and lessons learned.”
