Akshat Jain: Redefining Hemophilia Readiness in Mexico
Akshat Jain, Hematology Pediatric Workforce Task Force at American Society of Hematology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Wonderful time attending The Mexico ‘Redefining Hemophilia Readiness’ meeting in Merida, that drew about 200 Hematologists from all over Mx, to learn about strategies in bleeding disorder care in the age of rebalancing , extended 1/2 life factors, new mimmetics and new gene therapies.
Alike Brazil , China , Kaula-Lampur, Spain , Paris, Germany, India where I have had the honor of lecturing this year , folks in Mexico have some unique challenges of their own when caring for blood disorder patient’s:
- Access of these new therapies that are coming hot and heavy.
- Keeping up with information about practical management of hemophilia with novel/ re-balancing agents.
- Language barriers when parent/caregivers access information on social media or web resources, creating confusion and mis-conception.
- Cultural nuances that can be challenging in some ethnicities ( Mayan , mountain etc.)
Thank you Merida and Mexican colleagues who made this meeting a great success and provided much needed advocacy and knowledge exchange in the region , that I certainly learnt from a lot !”
