Alicja Arts։ Being a Superhero by Donating Blood
Alicja Arts, Founder of Nutrintelligence, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I wanted to be a superhero’ine as a kid, who didn’t, right?
Then I grew up, realised Disney and Marvel were big scams,
I got a ‘real’ job and carried a regular life.
I’ve been donating blood for 20 years now (yup, I started early) across 3 different countries.
Today is my first plasma donation at Sanquin.
It will be used for immune system treatments, bleeding disorders, autoimmune diseases and to create medicine for people with muscle disease.
One day a friend asked me why do I do it?
I found it a weird question, but I answered:
‘Why wouldn’t I? It costs me nothing (other than 1h of my time) and if I can help someone, why not?’
Then I thought about it and realised blood giving truly is the easiest & most ‘efficient’ (lowest cost vs highest impact) way to literally save human lives.
Turns out I’ve been a superhero for all these years afterall.
And you could be too!
If you’re not doing it already, hopefully this post will make you consider contacting your local blood bank.”
