Anna Gardin: From First to Second Stroke Unit in Kinshasa in 2 Years

Anna Gardin, Neurology Resident at Stroke Unit, “G. Martino” University Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

26 May 2024 – First Stroke Unit inaugurated, Monkole Hospital, Kinshasa, DRC

29 April 2026 – Second Stroke Unit inaugurated, HASC, Kinshasa, DRC

When dreams become reality.

Two years ago, we inaugurated the first Stroke Unit in the Democratic Republic of Congo, at Monkole Hospital in Kinshasa.

Last week, the second one was opened at the L’Amitié Sino-Congolaise Hospital (HASC).

A real stroke care network is being born.

None of this would have been possible without our extraordinary Congolese colleagues.

You believed in this project when it was just an idea, you gave it your energy, your commitment, and your heart.

You are an inspiration, and I have no doubt you will inspire many others to join this mission.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to the Italian Stroke Association and the ISA Africa working group.

The path has not been easy, but resilience has always been our superpower.

This is only the beginning

Curious to hear more?

We’ll be presenting a poster on this project at ESOC 2026 in Maastricht next week.

Come find us!”
