Armen Melkonyan: Supporting Armenia-Led Resolution on Hemophilia and Health Equity at WHO
Armen Melkonyan, Head of International Relations Department, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, shared on LinkedIn:
”At the 158th session of the WHO Executive Board, I delivered interventions in support of the Armenia-led resolution, “Global Action to Advance Health Equity for People with Hemophilia and Other Bleeding Disorders”.
Developed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia in close collaboration with the World Federation of Hemophilia, the resolution was the result of extensive consultations and bilateral negotiations with WHO Member States.
Its unanimous adoption represents a significant diplomatic and public health achievement.
Following its anticipated final adoption by all 194 Member States at the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79) in May 2026, we will transition to the implementation phase, guided by a strategic roadmap for 2026–2028.
This landmark resolution addresses the systemic underdiagnosis and historical marginalization of inherited bleeding disorders.
By establishing a pioneering framework for equitable care, we are ensuring that neither geography nor gender remains a barrier to the fundamental right to health.”
