Cedric Stephane Fosso: Every Drop of Blood Matters – A Child’s Silent Cry for Hemophilia Awareness

“Every Drop of Blood Matters, A Child’s Silent Cry for Hemophilia Awareness
The image above tells a story that no child should ever have to live.
A bleeding lip may seem like a minor injury to many people.
For most children, it is cleaned, comforted, and forgotten within minutes. But for a child living with hemophilia, the same injury can become a medical emergency.
Behind the tears is more than pain. There is fear. There is uncertainty. There is a family wondering whether the bleeding will stop before it becomes life-threatening.
Hemophilia is a rare inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly because it lacks sufficient clotting factors.
This means that even small cuts, bruises, or accidental falls can result in prolonged bleeding.
More dangerously, bleeding can occur inside joints, muscles, or vital organs without any visible wound.
For children with hemophilia, life is often defined by caution.
They cannot always play as freely as their friends.
A simple football match, a bicycle ride, or even losing a baby tooth can require urgent medical attention.
Childhood, which should be filled with laughter and adventure, can instead become a journey of hospital visits, pain, and resilience.
The emotional burden is equally profound. Parents live in constant vigilance, monitoring every bump and every fall.
Many experience sleepless nights, knowing that delayed treatment could have devastating consequences.
In many low- and middle-income countries, access to clotting factor concentrates remains limited, placing thousands of lives at unnecessary risk.
Yet hemophilia is not a death sentence.
With early diagnosis, access to appropriate treatment, comprehensive care, and strong community support, people living with hemophilia can lead healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives.
Awareness saves lives.
It encourages early diagnosis.
It reduces stigma.
It inspires governments to strengthen healthcare systems.
It motivates communities to support families living with bleeding disorders.
And it reminds us that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up without fear.
As we look at this child’s bleeding lip, let us remember that behind every patient is a dream waiting to be fulfilled.
No child should suffer because treatment is unavailable. No parent should lose hope because of a condition that modern medicine can effectively manage.
Today, let us choose compassion over indifference.
Let us advocate for affordable treatment, stronger health systems, and policies that ensure no person living with hemophilia is left behind.
Because every drop of blood is precious.
Because every life matters.
Together, we can transform awareness into action and hope into healing.
Ask me how…”
