Doroteia Silva: Early Rhythm Control Reduces AF Recurrence in Critically Ill Patients

Doroteia Silva, Cardiology and Intensive Care Consultant at Santa Maria University Hospital, posted on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:

”Important data from our work:

  • In critically ill patients, new-onset AF was frequently associated with post-ICU discharge recurrence over a 10-month follow-up.
  • Early rhythm control strategies were associated with lower in-hospital and post-discharge AF recurrence.
  • Individualised anticoagulation appeared safe and was not associated with increased bleeding.”
