Ellis Neufeld is Appointed as New Associate Editor of Blood
Blood Journals Portfolio shared a post on LinkedIn:
”We’re pleased to welcome another new Associate Editor to Blood!
Dr. Ellis Neufeld trained as a pediatric ‘classical’ hematologist and geneticist and is an experienced clinical investigator in blood disorders.
He has led observational and interventional studies in thalassemia, iron chelation, ITP, and hemophilia.
He is a founding leader of the ICON ITP consortium.
For NHLBI he has served on steering committees for multicenter clinical trial groups in Thalassemia (TCRN) and Transfusion Medicine/Hemostasis (TMHCRN); and he presently serves on the NHLBI Board of External Experts.
In ‘bedside to bench’ translational studies, he elucidated the role of the SLC19A2 transporter gene in Thiamine-Responsive Anemia, discovered a rare GATA-1 mutation in X-linked thalassemia, and studied the dominant sickling mutation, Hemoglobin Jamaica Plain.
After 32 years at Boston Children’s Hospital, he moved to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2017 to serve as Chief Medical Officer.
He is still currently there as Executive Vice President, Clinical Director, Physician-in-Chief, and John and Lorine Thrasher Endowed Chair in Pediatric Medicine.
His early research training included a PhD on platelet arachidonate metabolism, and a postdoc studying gp91-phox expression in myeloid cells.
The Blood Editorial Team is lucky to have Dr. Neufeld on board.
He started this position January 1 and we couldn’t be more ecstatic.”
