Emily Smith: From Personal Experience to Global Advocacy on World Haemophilia Day
Emily Smith, Reservations Supervisor at De Vere Beaumont Estate, Youth Ambassador of the Haemophilia Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today is a very special day for me — it’s World Haemophilia Day.
As someone diagnosed with a bleeding disorder at a young age, this day means a great deal personally.
Over the past four years as a Young Ambassador for the UK Haemophilia Society, I’ve had some incredible opportunities to connect with others living with bleeding disorders — not just across the UK, but around the world.
In October, I travelled to Vienna for the European Haemophilia Consortium’s Annual Conference, where I met inspiring individuals and heard powerful stories about living day-to-day with a bleeding disorder, as well as their hopes for the future.
This weekend, I was honoured to be selected to represent the UK at the Youth Leadership Workshop in Brussels, alongside 13 other young people from 11 different NMOs.
We arrived as strangers on Friday and left with strong friendships, new knowledge from some of the best in the field, and a shared confidence to help lead the future of our communities.
A huge thank you to The Haemophilia Society and EHC – European Haemophilia Consortium for these amazing opportunities — I’m so excited for what’s ahead. ”
