Florine Fisette: Strengthening Blood Banking and Life-Saving First Aid Training Across Burundi
Florine Fisette, Head of Knowledge and Private Partnerships of International Cooperation at Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Access to safe blood and quality First Aid saves lives — every day.
In close partnership with the Burundi Red Cross, we are working to strengthen blood banking systems and scale up life-saving First Aid training across Burundi. In a context where severe anemia, maternal hemorrhage, and road traffic injuries remain major causes of preventable death, these capacities are not just important — they are essential.
Earlier this week, together with our Technical Manager Anne Schmitz, we conducted a field mission to Burundi to:
- Support the national blood bank with technical expertise, alongside our volunteer expert Pierre Zachee
- Assess how we can continue to strengthen the outstanding work of the Burundi First Aid team, building on the Basic First Aid for Africa guidelines developed by Belgian Red Cross-Flanders — a pioneering initiative in Africa.
Sustainable impact is only possible through strong collaboration. Sincere thanks to our valued partners — Belgian Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and the Van der Poorten-Vermeiren Fund (managed by the King Baudouin Foundation) — for making this work possible.”
