Grace Nyanudor: Coagulation Tests Start With Accurate Sample Handling Before Analysis

Grace Nyanudor, Student at the University of Cape Coast, Research Club Member, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Some of the most valuable lessons in the laboratory come from understanding the ‘why’ behind every procedure.

Yesterday’s coagulation practical reinforced the importance of PT, APTT and clot retraction in evaluating bleeding disorders, monitoring anticoagulant therapy and assessing platelet function.

We also appreciated how simple pre-analytical errors such as underfilling a citrate tube or leaving a tourniquet on for too long can affect test results and potentially influence clinical decisions.

In laboratory medicine, accuracy begins long before the sample reaches the analyzer.”
